Adsorptive Removal of Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics Using Bamboo Biochar

چکیده
The occurrence of fluoroquinolone antibiotics in wastewater has drawn great attention. Adsorption of widely used fluoroquinolone antibiotics (enrofloxacin and ofloxacin) in wastewater using bamboo biochar was investigated. More than 99% of fluoroquinolone antibiotics were removed from the synthetic wastewater through adsorption. Adsorption capacities of bamboo biochar slightly changed when pH increased from 3.0 to 10.0. The adsorption capacity of bamboo biochar increased sharply when the initial concentration of enrofloxacin or ofloxacin increased from 1 to 200 mg L−1 and then began to plateau with further increases in initial concentration. The maximum adsorption capacity (45.88 ± 0.90 mg·g−1) was observed when the ratio of bamboo biochar to fluoroquinolone antibiotics was 10. The enrofloxacin adsorption capacity of bamboo biochar decreased from 19.91 ± 0.21 mg·g−1 to 14.30 ± 0.51 mg·g−1 while that of ofloxacin decreased from 19.82 ± 0.22 mg·g−1 to 13.31 ± 0.56 mg·g−1 when the NaCl concentrations increased from 0 to 30 g·L−1. The adsorptions of fluoroquinolone on bamboo biochar have isotherms that obeyed the Freundlich model (r2 values were in the range of 0.990–0.991).

Development of adsorptive membranes by confinement of activated biochar into electrospun nanofibers
Adsorptive membranes have many applications in removal of contaminants, such as heavy metals and organic contaminants from water. Recently, increasing concentrations of pharmaceutically active compounds, especially antibiotics, such as chlortetracycline in water and wastewater sources has raised concerns about their potentially adverse impacts on environment and human health. In this study, a s...
متن کاملBiochar-supported zerovalent iron for removal of various contaminants from aqueous solutions.
This work describes the synthesis and testing of a novel environmental sorbent that combines the advantages of biochar, chitosan, and zerovalent iron (ZVI). Chitosan was used as a dispersing and soldering reagent to attach fine ZVI particles onto bamboo biochar surfaces. Characterization of the resulted ZVI-biochar composites (BBCF) indicated that chitosan effectively soldered the iron particle...

In this study, the adsorptive characteristics of biochar generated from anaerobically digested garden wastes (AD-char) were investigated. Metal adsorption onto AD-chars reached equilibrium in 48 h; the adsorption capacity of Cu by AD-char was 182 μmol g, which was higher than that of Zn (35.3 μmol g) and Mn (60.7 μmol g). The metal adsorption was well described by the pseudo second-order kineti...

Biochars have received increasing attention in recent years because of their significant properties such as carbon sequestration, soil fertility, and contaminant immobilization. In this work, the adsorptive removal of paraquat (1,10-dimethyl-4,40-dipyridinium chloride, one of the most widely used herbicides) from aqueous solution onto the swine-manure-derived biochar has been studied at 25 C in...

A comparison of adsorption efficiency of the three Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) produced from waste Nigerian Bamboo at different level of activation in a fixed adsorption bed is reported. Bamboo carbonization was done at temperature range of 200-400c and chemically activated at 400c with chloride salt at percentage range of 0-20%. The 0, 10 and 20% level activation were selected for water tr...
